SOUND in FILM
ART OF THE FILM .COM /SOUND
Sound is one of the most underrated aspects of filmmaking. The sound supports the visuals; the right sound effects can add a realism or credibility to even the most outlandish on-screen imagery. So much goes into any given soundtrack - dialogue, effects, foley, and music. And while all of these elements are critical to the sound experience, it's equally important that the sound mixer blends all of these sounds together in a way that is coherent for an audience.
Great sound work can often be easily recognized - think of the tripods in War of the Worlds; the roar of King Kong; the ignition of a lightsaber. But it can also go unnoticed.
What my Sound Exploration videos try to do is encourage you to think about sound in a different way, and to appreciate everything from the loudest explosions to the softest footsteps. Sound videos are among the most frequently-produced on the site, so be sure to bookmark this page or subscribe to my YouTube channel.
